Campaign at a Glance

The $4 billion Campaign seeks to raise money for talent, for tools, and for transformative programs of research and study.

Columbia Campaign at a Glance

Endowment: Investing in Talent

The largest Campaign goal (40 percent of the total) focuses on building endowment for students and faculty. Tuition can’t cover the cost of a Columbia education, and budget pressures are fierce. Building endowment, however, will ensure that budgetary restrictions never threaten our commitment to academic excellence.

In comparison with our peers, the operating revenue of Columbia University relies on tuition much more heavily than endowment. To see where we stand, click here: Endowment: Columbia vs. Peers.

Facilities: Developing Tools and Infrastructure

Columbia needs room: room for labs and libraries; offices and teaching facilities; athletic and fitness facilities; and technologically advanced work spaces, especially for the sciences and the arts.

Twenty-five percent of the overall goal is designated for capital investment in facilities and equipment. The potential this space creates is epitomized by the creation of The Jerome L. Greene Science Center in 2006 with a $200 million gift, the largest ever for a single facility at any university.

Immediate Program Support

Columbia builds on deep strengths, including its influential Core Curriculum and distinguished faculty. Even as it commits to renewing these strengths, Columbia’s programs must grow to reflect a changing world. Gifts that can be put toward current needs promote that growth, whether in curriculum, research agenda, or in the kind of hands-on outreach that brings our expertise to bear on problems around the city and the globe.

Columbia Campaign at a Glance

Building the Columbia Connection Among Alumni

Alumni across the schools are choosing to stay affiliated with Columbia and lend their energy and expertise to the extended Columbia community. The Campaign invests in the extraordinary talents of our more than 260,000 alumni by engaging them—whether as Campaign volunteers, donors, leaders in the Columbia Alumni Association, or advisors to the University and its programs. When the Campaign ends in 2011, we will look for measurable progress in alumni engagement.
